Greetings Ranch,
I actually think that the policy on being more lenient on 25 year old is a wonderful idea. I completely disagree with your initial opinion. Prison is a scary and cold place and the youth shouldn’t spend their best years in their for making dumb decisions. Oh boy, if Podrick got caught for what I did in my 20s I would be locked up and they would throw away the key! They probably aren’t completely eliminating the possibility of 25 year olds going to jail, but probably being more lenient in the prison sentences. We waste so much resources locking kids up for silly things when they could be benefiting society. It is not only cruel but also very ineffective to lock away so many young people. The US has 25% of the world’s prison population! Isn’t that nuts! Why does our government get such a thrill in throwing people into cold isolating cells. I also disagree with your notion that breaking a law is a proper justification to imprison someone. Yes violent offenders do need to be rehabilitated but laws are a social construct. I remember when it was completely legal to have a slave and smoke opium. Just because something is a law doesn’t make it moral. So many youngsters are in jail for drug offenses. Drugs are scary, but jail is even scarier!! Unless a crime is violent or dangerous to society, we should be much more lenient in our justice system. I agree with you that it is bonkers that we send 18 year olds to war! They should be at home playing their video games and playing with their hula hoops. I say that we make the old men that push for war fight their own battles, instead of sending our kids off to die. We should be investing in our youth, not be sending them to prison or to die in a foreign country. Kids from rough backgrounds are much more likely to be thrown in jail then kids from privileged backgrounds. Instead of attacking the kids, we should attack the system that has left them behind. The newest generation has so much potential to positively change the world. It has been a long time since ive seen a generation with so much vigor for change and compassion. The world may seem to get scarier and scarier but I have faith in this generation. The world does not need to be a cruel place. I’ve seen human civilization change so much in my 300 + years. You can change the world for the better. It is dangerous to think that you are powerless. I’ve noticed that individuals have much more power than they think they do. I am glad you had a change of heart! I don’t think you are a cruel man like your secretary Rosemary said. I just feel that you need to open your heart more. I can see that your heart has the potential to be nice and plump!
Sincerely.
Podrick
